I am a huge believer in upcycling items. When you have good quality furniture why get rid of it when you can glamcycle it, and make it look like a whole new piece of furniture. Chalk paint is one of the easiest paints you can use to update furniture. Chalk paint can be used on all types of materials from metal, glass, wood, concrete, and even fabric!
My bedroom set was gifted to me as a young adult by my parents. It’s a Palliser Bedroom set originally six pieces including the bed frame, armoire, tall dresser, women’s dress, and 2 side tables. This set has been with me for many years and quite a few moves. The quality of the wood is so solid and so I knew a Chalk Paint project was a must to turn these pieces into my vision of creating a dreamy bedroom look.
My vision was to turn the darker wood into a beautiful clean white look, and adding a touch of feminine crystal knobs would help to complete the look.
You don’t have to sand your furniture when you use chalk paint, but I made sure I thoroughly cleaned each piece and also lightly sanded it. I took the time to do this just in case there was oil or wax buildup from years of cleaning the furniture. I wanted to make sure the paint could adhere to the furniture.
As you can see when you apply the coat, it goes on very light. I used around 3-4 coats of chalk paint for each piece. I used a brush and a roller to paint all the pieces of furniture. I was lucky the design is clean and straight, with little to no grooves. The paint dries fairly quickly as well, which makes it easy to move onto the next piece. Read the instructions on the cans for best results.
I wanted to take my time and get this perfect. You have to have patience when it comes to painting furniture, especially when you go from a darker wood to white. This entire project took me a good few days to complete, but it was worth it.

This armoire is very heavy, but it stores a lot of items. When I used it in my bedroom originally, I stored my tv in it. Now, I have it in my office room for storage. I love the way this turned out and I added an extra design element to it by putting silver wallpaper to the back wall of the insides.
The long dresser has an extended mirror that attaches to the back of the unit, however, I no longer use the mirror as this piece sits in front of my window.
The side table I use one in my bedroom and have moved one to the my office room for extra storage.
I am so proud of the look I was able to create with my bedroom set! If you have any questions, please comment and I will make sure to get back to you.
